Cave of Forgotten Dreams
Monday, July 11, 2011 at 7:23PM Generally I don't do movie reviews, o.k never have I done a movie review in a blog post. But Cave of Forgotten Dreams intersects with a lot of interests of mine, prehistoric man , caves , nature depictions and actually with one of my first blog posts about why I do what I do. The director of Cave of Forgotten Dreams Werner Herzog , to put it mildly has a particular way of making movies , apparently his movies are like olives or brie, at first you hate them and then you can't stop eating them. Maybe this is not a good comparison to movie-making. Anyway, I loved every bit of the actual footage of the cave paintings. The talking heads ie., the anthropologists and cave hobbyists were unbelievably funny but I don't think they were trying to be unfortunately. And it wasn't just me, neighbor Sarah could hardly contain herself. It was like being back in second grade. But back to the part I loved, the actual cave paintings , they were AMAZING. And I'm not exaggerating , at all. It's not hard to imagine how even more life-like they would be with flickering torches. Interestingly , the Chauvet caves also have what may be the earliest human representations (in paint ) of humans and not surprisingly, it's kind of graphic porn. But really , the animal paintings were stunning and immediate and left me with the fervent wish that I could meet the artists that made them.
