I've talked a little bit about finding galleries ..talking to people at galleries....getting your work into galleries or shops appropriate to your work.... Schlepping it to the gallery/shop. You don't even have to read those posts to get the gist of it. It's really hard, super extra hard if you are an introvert. And time-consuming , too. Well , I still have to do all that. But , in an attempt to diversify AND quiet the people who say " Oh, you're a sculptor .....Are you on Etsy ?

So I finally retrieved my bike from my sister's barn where it's been languishing since the big move. It's a little worse the wear but I'm going to get it spruced up this week and start biking again. The only problem is that I'm used to the greenways of Roanoke and the quiet gravel roads of Bedford county. There was generally no danger of getting run over by a speeding car. Mainly it looked like this path below though usually not as steep.

So , my question is where are the hidden , quiet country lanes that a NOT-AT-ALL adventurous bicyclist could ride near Staunton, Va? And not get run over. Feel free to email me directly if you don't want everyone knowing the answer.

It's amazing to me how if I haven't worked for a couple of months I seriously think " Oh, dear , I don't think I remember how to make a frog'. Bear in mind I've made more that a thousand of them over the years. Of course , three seconds into it , it comes right back. Just like riding a bicycle ! Which leads me to my next post.

The director of Cave of Forgotten Dreams Werner Herzog , to put it mildly has a particular way of making movies , apparently his movies are like olives or brie, at first you hate them and then you can't stop eating them. Maybe this is not a good comparison to movie-making. Anyway, I loved every bit of the actual footage of the cave paintings. The talking heads ie., the anthropologists and cave hobbyists were unbelievably funny but I don't think they were trying to be unfortunately. And it wasn't just me, neighbor Sarah could hardly contain herself. It was like being back in second grade. But back to the part I loved, the actual cave paintings , they were AMAZING. And I'm not exaggerating , at all. It's not hard to imagine how even more life-like they would be with flickering torches. Interestingly , the Chauvet caves also have what may be the earliest human representations (in paint ) of humans and not surprisingly, it's kind of graphic porn. But really , the animal paintings were stunning and immediate and left me with the fervent wish that I could meet the artists that made them.
